Zoho’s Personal Touch

Zoho, a global software company, have stood by Baby in Mind over the long-term. We first met the Zoho team in 2012 when we began using their software for our membership database and office communications. We now use their full suite of software for all areas of our organisation’s operations.

Despite being a global organisation, with over 3,500 staff and (now) 15 million users, we could not quite believe the personalised and efficient support they gave to small businesses and community organisations like Baby in Mind. Their communication with the customer is quite unlike anything we have experienced from any other business, and so we were nothing less than thrilled when Zoho joined the Impact 180 partnership.

The Zoho Scholarship

Zoho make a high-impact annual donation to Baby in Mind. This donation is being used to help reverse the mental health risks faced by Australian babies at risk of abuse and/ or neglect.

Zoho is helping us to provide early intervention and prevention by targetting outcomes for some of the most vulnerable babies in our community. The donation pays for workers who support babies at risk of abuse, to undertake nationally accredited training and gain special, evidence-based skills in promoting infant mental health and safety using the Baby In Mind “First Touch Program’.

We are using the Zoho Scholarship to provide training to health workers directly supporting families where babies are at higher risk of child abuse and neglect.
The First Touch Program addresses some of the key risks of child abuse and neglect during infancy by supporting responsive parenting and caregiving, and building parents’ awareness of their baby’s emotional world.
The First Touch Program is low-cost for services to deliver and, once trained, a health worker can deliver the program on an ongoing basis. By supporting the training of local health workers,  Zoho’s donation is ensuring sustainability of  child abuse prevention in communities.

*It’s an awesome ROI, right? The amount is based on evidence that each dollar spent on early intervention such as our First Touch Program, saves between $2.80 and $21.00 in long term prevention of cime, mental illness, health care, welfare and other “taxpayer” costs (Allen, 2011; Valentine & Katz, 2007). So how, exactly, did we work these figures out? It’s quite simple: the savings are what’s left over after we take out the cost of training the health workers and delivering the program to the number of babies (assuming a very conservative $2.80 ROI).

The children I work with already face extremely challenging situations daily, as well as a shorter life expectancy. Aside from the direct benefits of the First Touch Program being of great importance (enhanced bonding, reduction in stress, regulation, enhanced emotions) for these children, the program has the added benefit of being a non-judgemental way they can engage in other health services. If we can encourage young mothers and children to attend their regular health checks, we are supporting other changes too - and possibly resulting in these children having happier, healthier lives. Thank you Zoho for making this possible.

There is a lot of family violence, child protection issues and relationship breakdowns here. The First Touch Program helps parents here to know how to protect their babies and build a meaningful relationship with them. There is so much benefit to this program. The opportunity to have this scholarship is amazing!
